Some useful do’s and don’ts for daily marble maintenance

Image
- Do dust mop floors frequently. - Do clean surfaces with mild, PH neutral cleaners. When wet mopping floors, please remember to change the water frequently. After mopping, dry the floor with soft cloth. Avoid excess use of water on stone surface. Absorb any extra water. - Do thoroughly rinse and dry the surface with clean, clear water after washing with any chemical. - Do blot out spills immediately. - Do protect the floor surfaces with non – slip mats, and counter tops with coasters, trivets or placemats. Sand, dirt and grit do the most damage to stone surfaces due to their abrasive nature. Normally, it will take a person about 6 – 8 steps on a floor surface to remove sand or dirt from the bottom of their shoes. Mats at the entrance will help to minimise the sand, dirt and grit that will scratch the stone surface. - Don’t use vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaners containing acids on marble, limestone, travertine, or onyx surfaces. - Don’t use cleaners that contain acids...

Monsoon – Home Care Tips

Image
After the brutal heat of the summer, the monsoon’s are a relief! While the rains bring down the mercury, one must be careful of the germs and water borne illnesses that arise from water stagnation and moisture in the air. Mentioned below are some preventive measures you can take to make sure your house is well protected, clean, and dry during the monsoon. Pre Monsoon Examination - Clean the pipes so there are no blockages and smooth drainage of rain water is possible. Call an expert to repair any cracks or damaged tiles to avoid seepage. Cupboards – Wardrobes become damp in the monsoons. The air moisture can be absorbed by putting dried neem leaves, cloves, camphor, silica gel sachets, and/or commercially available moisture absorption sachets in the cupboards, drawers or wooden desks. Ventilation – Try and get as much cross ventilation and sunlight as possible. This will help to take away some of the moisture from the air and remove the damp smell. Excessive moisture in the ai...

At what stage of my home renovation should I get marble polishing done?

Image
I am getting my house painted, when should I get my marble floors polished, before or after the painting? In case of old marble, if you are going for a complete marble diamond restoration process , we recommend the work be done before your final quote of paint. Once polished, we further recommend the floors be covered while the painter applies his final quote of paint. This covering will protect your newly polished marble flooring from getting scratched and from staining. Once completed, the covering can be removed and the floors buffed. You can then enjoy freshly painted walls and sparkling marble floors. We have attached two images in which we have used William Tape to cover the floors, at a siye. There are several options available for protecting natural stone flooring depending on budget and level of protection required. Please call us on 9717719303 to discuss your requirement and how best we can serve you. Visit -  www.cleansweep.co.in  for mor...

How to remove hard water stains from glass shower cubicle?

Image
Prepare a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Apply the paste to the hard water stains . Leave the paste for 15 minutes. Then scrub using a soft scrubbing sponge or soft bristle toothbrush in a circular motion. Wipe off the paste with a damp cloth. If the stain persists, spray a mixture of vinegar and water on the glass and wipe off with microfibre duster or folded newspaper. Alternatively cut the lemon in half and rub it directly on the stain. The acidity in the lemon will remove hard water deposits. Wipe off with a microfibre duster. Note: Incase you have marble flooring in your bathroom, please be careful when using lime or vinegar as both are acidic and can etch the marble. Place a cloth at the bottom of the glass shower cabin so no lime or vinegar falls on the marble. For professional deep cleaning service for your home or office, contact Cleansweep. Super shine with diamond impregnated pads vs super shine with diamond pads

Image
A super shine is a marble maintenance process . If you have marble floors that have become dull, have scuff marks, minor scratches on the surface of the marble and lacks lustre, you can go for a ‘super shine’ process to restore shine . Under the ‘super shine’ process we have two options, one which uses diamond impregnated pads and one which uses diamond pads. The difference between the two lies in the fact that the super shine with diamond pads is a superior process as it gives a sharper shine and is better at removing scratches. A super shine will give a mirror finish shine. In both process, the skirting is not done. Cracks and joints are not repaired. For more details, please call us on ....... The first two images are of super shine with diamond impregnated pads and second two use diamond pads.

Gloss - O - Meter for measuring shine on marble floors

Image
Some concerns our clients raise about the shine of diamond polished marble floors : - The floor should be shinning more - The shine is not even in all areas of the floor - How do we know the shine has improved from before polish to after polishing the floor ? To solve all of these concerns we use a gloss - o - meter, which gives an accurate reading of shine level of a floor. We measure the gloss with a gloss - o - meter before starting work and after we have completed a project. A shine level above 85 is good. The percentage of gloss achieved will depend on the composition of marble. This meter can be placed at different places across a polished marble floor to determine if shine is standard in all areas of a room. At Cleansweep we believe in providing our clients with the best quality marble polishing service . To achieve this we use the best technology with ample training to ensure clients are satisfied with our service. If you have any marble flooring that needs restora...

Bathroom marble wall Polishing

Image
At Cleansweep we work with architects on new projects. Here we get commissioned the entire marble polishing of the building, this includes - walls, floors, skirting, countertops, steps, grooves, moulding, chamfering and window panelling. Herewith please find some images of our team working on marble cladding polishing . In this project, we first removed the fibre from the walls. Then the walls were cut to even it out and remove all lippage. Thereafter grouting and all cracks and pin holes were filled. Once the filling was cut, we completed the rest of the steps of marble polishing to bring a high gloss finish. We also made all the grooves and moulding to ensure they are smooth and neat. In the images you can see the difference between polished and unpolished marble. Once all the bathroom fitting and fixtures are installed we will give the walls one last buff.

What is marble crystallisation and what are its benefits?

Image
The crystallization process consists of spraying a liquid crystalliser onto the polished marble floor and buffing it in with steel wool under a standard weighted single disc floor machine. The steel wool generates heat through abrasion and the chemical reacts with the marble, producing a new compound on the surface of the stone. The most common ingredients of crystallization chemicals are acid, magnesium fluorosilicate, and water. The surface of the stone is chemically altered when applying crystalliser and there is no way to reverse the process. The only way to remove a crystallized layer is through grinding the floor with diamond grits. Through the crystallisation process the resulting layer of calcium flurosilicate that is formed on the surface of the stone makes the stone harder, more glossier and more resistant to stains. This is the primary principle behind using a crystalliser. Crystallisers can only be used on polished marble surfaces, not honed marble. It is simple an...

Salt sedimentation / efflorescence on marble

Image
Have you ever seen marble with white patches on it? When you run your hand over these white patch, does it feel rough? This phenomena is known as efflorescence or salt sedimentation on surface of marble. It happens when there is dampness below the marble. This dampness doesn’t have an outlet to dry so it seeps up through the marble and comes to the surface of the stone. Upon drying it leaves white patches which can become rough. This problem occurs in flooring which is surrounded by garden on all sides or by a water body and adequate water proofing is not done to protect marble. When clients come to us with such issues, some people have the impression that polishing the marble with diamond grits will cut the white spots and solve the problem. Unfortunately, this is not the solution. Temporarily the marble will look good. But eventually if the source problem is not resolved, the dampness will once again come through the marble and dry on the surface. We have temporary solu...

Dholpur Floor Restoration

Image
Below please find some before and after images of cleaning work done on Dholpur floors on a terrace. Usually, two grits numbering 60 and 100 are good enough to clean Dholpur. However, because of the green marble slabs in between the Dholpur slabs, we have run grit numbers 200 and 400 to give a honed finish to the green marble. Once completely dry we have applied two coats of sealer, which was left to dry for 72 hours. Thereafter a clean terrace was ready for us again!

How to make smooth grooves / moudling in newly laid marble?

Image
Often clients ask us why it is expensive to make grooves / moudling in new marble. When grooves and moulding are set in marble (reference image), they have sharp edges. To smoothen the moulding / grooves we have the following options to choose from: - Use a hand grinder machine to remove the sharpness from the edges. - Use hand sand paper starting at 60 number of coarness and work our way up to 420 number of sand paper. Each subsequent number is less coarse than the previous. It works by removing the sharpness and then smoothening the edges. - There is a machine available that makes the moulding and edges on pieces of stone. Then the ready made pieces are mounted on walls or skirting. This machine is expensive and usually available with large companies that focus on marble laying work. We recommend a combination of the first two steps. Our reservation with using only the hand grinding machine for the edges is that on walls, it does not give the smooth finish one would want. ...

Marble polishing for newly installed marble

Image
At Cleansweep we provide marble polishing service for old marble and for newly installed marble. In the case of new marble, we often get asked what are the steps we will follow such that marble polishing happens in the correct sequence without the stone getting damaged. As new marble is laid in a construction site, there are several other teams working and we must all work and support each other. At a construction site where new marble is being installed, we recommend the following sequence: At the time when the stone is laid we will remove the fibre from the stone, do the cutting of the marble to ensure that there is no lippage. This is followed by filling of grouting, cracks and chips. At this stage we will match the colour of the filling with the colour of the stone. Then we will cut the extra filling. After running grit number 200 we suggest that the floors are covered and the rest of the work at the site carries on. If there are any grooves and moulding, these will be ma...
